A little pricey compared to others on the market but it works & has a button on bottom of unit to make it even more sensitive Just plug it in, put the cord next to the IR equipment you want to control insert the battery transmitter in your remote and that's it.Can transmit a signal from any where in the house to the device being controlled. The Remote Control Extender does freeze on occasion when trying to flip through channels meaning "it doesn't work" but this is a small inconvenience.
NOT for cement/block wall houses.Am now trying another type/brand from a client, will update this if possible. May work well in homes with wood or sheetrock internal walls but in homes with block work, "NO WAY", I could not get the remote to work 55 feet away in the bedroom. Tried it closer with less walls and it was still intermittent.
IR will bounce, so I put it on the top of the device pointing at the door, and it bounces to the device. This does exactly what is says it will. Great price, great product. Won't work if the door is open, but then the normal IR is working, so everything works great for me. I am using it for my cable box, which is in the closet. The instructions say you need to use the emitter cable unless you can position the device immediately in front of the target device, but this is not true.
Two problems. Second, if you must have special programming for the extender to function, how quickly will the unit become obsolete, say by needing to switch cable providers.
As for a cable box, I would not advise this unit. If you want it for a DVD player, TV, or some other device, then this may suffice.
Next Generation Remote Control ExtenderDepending on the device you are controlling, you may have to call Next Generation directly and have a special unit programmed. It is not prefaced on Amazon.com.
Last but, by far, not least, this information warning pertaining to cable boxes is important enough to be in bold, red, and with a large typeface on Next Gen's home page, but somehow doesn't translate as important information on Amazon's abstract of the product. Hopefully others realize this before they buy a unit from Amazon and in turn be forced to troubleshoot why it won't work like I had to.
One, they don't tell you this unless you visit Next Generation's website.
A very well designed and easy to use product. This worked perfect with my Xbox 360 media remote. Just plug it in and replace one battery in your remote with the RF battery and presto, I can use the Xbox when it's located on the other side of the wall.
